Is Maui the Right Place for Wedding in Hawaii?
- Those of us who live on Maui are fond
of saying "Maui no kai oi." What that means is: "Maui
is like no other." There is no place on earth quite like
it.
If youve never been here, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Still relatively uncrowded, Maui has some of the worlds
greatest beaches, postcard perfect for your on-the-beach wedding
ceremony.
-
- All of the Hawaiian islands are
spectacular. But we believe Maui is the best choice. And the fact that
half of all Hawaiian tourist weddings take
place on this island probably proves the point.
-
- So Maui is a great choice for your wedding.
-
- Our Maui Weather
-
- Mauis weather is almost always good.
The average daytime temperature is between 70 and 88 YEAR ROUND.
That means you can come here in the dead of winter and still
swim the beaches. So choose the best time for yourself, and leave
the cold weather behind.
-
- Maui is full
of fun activities
-
- There's so much to do
here! You can parasail or windsurf or go deep-sea fishing. Boogie
board or surf. Snorkel
or scuba. In winter, watch the humpback
whales breeching offshore. Drive into a tropical wilderness on
the road to Hana.
Play through on a championship golf course or enjoy a fabulous
Luau. Shop on Front Street or explore an old whaling vessel in Lahaina. Eat in one of Maui's classy restaurants with ocean-front
seating. Ride a bicycle down the world's largest dormant volcano. Discover one of our
secluded black-sand beaches. Explore the back country in a four-wheel
drive or swim inside the sea caves in south Maui.
-
- Your biggest problem here
will be deciding WHAT to do next. Because some of the best activities
will be filled if you wait until you come to here to sign up,
you might want to book your activities before you arrive on Maui. We can help you book your
Maui activities.
-
- The best
time to come to Maui
-
- There is virtually no bad time to be on
Maui. But high season on the island (when the rates and occupancy
are the highest) runs between mid-December and mid-April each
year. This is when the "snow birds" show up from the mainland and also
when the whales are here.
-
- For the wedding industry, May and June are also high months,
so if youre planning to be a June bride, be sure to book
your wedding early to get the date you want. July and August are a
little hotter and so the number of tourists goes down, but school is
also out for many so that keeps traffic up. Probably the best time to
come is between mid-October through
early December. It is the least crowded and the rates are best before
December 15th.
-
- Where to
Stay on Maui
-
- The two best areas on the island are West
and South Maui. Although West Maui has a few more resorts, I
recommend South Maui (because the climate and beaches are better
for your wedding and the resorts nicer than up in West Maui).
When you consider booking accommodations, be sure to know whether
its in West or South Maui.
-
- The west side is framed against the normally
lush and green West Maui mountains centered at the old seaport
of Lahaina. There are many great resorts lining the Kaanapali
coast, and you can get married on their grounds or on the public
beaches. The offshore islands of Lanai and Molokai offer an incredible
backdrop for your sunset beach photos.
-
- South Maui is the dry side of the island
least likely to incur a rain storm that might impact your wedding.
The resorts in this area are excellent and the many golf courses
are all nice and green. It is less crowded in South Maui and
there are many excellent free beach locations for your special
day.
-
- Save Money
on Maui Accommodations
The resorts on Maui are more expensive than the many inexpensively
priced condos that are available. They're much more spacious,
have more amenities and are usually a third to half as expensive
as the resort prices. And many of them have excellent locations
right on the beach.
Condos often have full kitchens so you can cook if you desire.
Even if you're planning to eat out all of your major meals, it's
still nice to have a refrigerator to stock cold drinks, fruits
and snacks. The "feel" of most condos is usually very
luxurious. They often have several TVs, sometimes a VCR and a
stereo system and usually a microwave.
